Google has just updated AI Mode , its artificial intelligence-driven search experience, integrating new features that include agent capabilities, personalized recommendations, and the option to share AI-generated responses with other individuals.

In addition to this, the technology giant has activated AI Mode in English in more than 180 new countries and territories. However, none of these include any country within the European Union and, therefore, not Spain either.

Google has stated that it intends to extend access to this technology to additional countries and languages in the near future, so it could be the European Union’s turn in an upcoming update. It is important to note that this “delay” is not an unusual occurrence, as companies such as Google or OpenAI must adapt their products to meet the EU’s security and privacy legislation before launching them in those territories, which often results in certain delays. For the moment, we do not know when AI Mode by Google will be available in the EU.

What’s new in AI Mode

The goal of AI Mode is to provide complete conversational responses supported by information extracted from the web and enhanced with links to that information. Moreover, it enables the user to continue delving deeper into the conversation by posing additional questions. This represents an evolution of AI Overviews.

Now, Google has incorporated new capabilities to enhance the user experience and personalization of its AI Mode. These updates have already begun rolling out in the United States.

Agent skills to book reservations

First, Google has announced the integration of agent capabilities in AI Mode, which is comparable to having a personal assistant available to help with specific tasks. The company has reported that this capability has already been activated for searching for restaurant reservations and that soon it will be available for local service appointments and event tickets as well.

This new feature leverages the capabilities of Project Mariner, its artificial intelligence agent for web navigation, as well as direct integrations with partners in Search, its Knowledge Graph, and Google Maps resources. Among its partners are OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, StubHub, SeatGeek, and Booksy, among others.

Thanks to this, AI Mode is able to search in real time across multiple platforms and reservation websites, adapting to a wide range of restrictions and preferences (date, time, location, group size, dining preferences, etc.) as indicated by the user and, ultimately, will compile a list of restaurant options with availability, connecting you directly with their reservation pages so that you may easily complete the reservation process.

Currently, AI Mode’s agent capabilities are available exclusively in the United States to subscribers of Google AI Ultra through the “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode” experiment in Google Labs.

Personalized search

This is another new feature that has only been activated in the United States, specifically for those who are subscribed to the AI Mode experiment in Google Labs.

These users may receive results tailored to their preferences and interests when using AI Mode. As with the previous case, Google has decided to begin implementing this feature for food-related searches.

The company provided the following example to explain how this feature operates: “Suppose you search: ‘I only have an hour, I need someplace for a quick meal, any suggestions?’ AI Mode can use your previous conversations, along with places you have searched for or selected in Search and Maps, to present more relevant and personalized options. Therefore, if AI Mode determines that you prefer Italian food, vegan meals, and places with outdoor seating, you could receive results suggesting such options.”

Share AI Mode’s responses

Google has added a new button that enables you to share the responses provided by AI Mode with your contacts. Additionally, individuals who receive the link will not only be able to view the response but may also continue interacting with AI Mode on that topic, asking further questions or visiting the compiled sources.

Likewise, the individual who sends the link has the ability to delete it at any time. This new feature can be especially useful when organizing plans or sharing information while collaborating on a project, for example.

As with the previously mentioned features, this button is only accessible in the United States.
