Although there are undeniable leaders in online commerce, each country has its own rules and preferences when choosing its habitual eCommerce platform for making online purchases.

In France, for instance, according to the analysis by the Fédération de l’E-commerce et de la Vente à Distance (FEVAD) of France, the following list enumerates the 10 most popular eCommerce platforms in the country according to the number of unique visitors per month throughout the fourth quarter of 2024.

  3. E. Leclerc
  4. Fnac
  5. Vinted
  6. Temu
  7. Carrefour
  8. Booking
  9. Cdiscount
  10. Lidl

Compared to the previous list, this year E. Leclerc, Fnac, and Carrefour have climbed; Cdiscount, Vinted, Lidl, and Booking have dropped; Amazon and Leboncoin maintained their places, while Shein fell out of the top. In its stead, Temu entered. Below, we analyze the data of each of these eCommerce platforms.

1. Amazon

Leading the ranking, just like the previous edition, we find Amazon, the global ecommerce retail leader. During the last quarter of 2024, the site reached 45,162.7 million unique visitors per month. If we consider that, on average, 50 million internet users (78% of French people) consulted at least one of the top 20 sites and/or applications each month, Amazon garners the attention of 82% of internet users.

2. Leboncoin

Maintaining the second place compared to 2023, we find Leboncoin, a website created in 2006 that specializes in publishing classified ads. In the last quarter of 2024, it reached an average of 32,618,300 unique visitors per month.

3. E. Leclerc

E.Leclerc is a French-origin supermarket and hypermarket chain with an extensive market presence. It has physical locations in France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, and Andorra, and since entering the digital world, it has grown exponentially. In the last quarter of 2024, the platform had a monthly average of 22,641,300 unique visitors. Thanks to these numbers, it climbed two positions compared to 2023.

4. Fnac

Rising 5 places in the ranking, we find the well-known Fnac, a subsidiary of Groupe Fnac Darty, a store specializing in electronics, computers, photography equipment, books, music, and video. The company has 44 subsidiaries spread across Belgium, Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Morocco, Taiwan, and France.

According to the ranking, Fnac amassed an average of 20,894,500 unique visitors per month.

5. Vinted

Vinted is a Lithuanian platform where users can sell, buy, and trade second-hand clothing and accessories. With a presence in many European Union countries, it has become quite popular in the French market; in the fourth quarter of 2024, it had an average of 20,565,600 unique visitors per month.

Its success is even more notable in the field of mobile applications, as 83% of its traffic comes from within the app. Nonetheless, it fell one spot in the table compared to 2023.

6. Temu

Bursting into sixth place, Temu appears for the first time in the ranking, the low-cost Asian-origin marketplace that arrived in France in the second quarter of 2023 and has resonated well among internet users. According to data from Fevad, throughout the last quarter of 2024, the platform had an average of 20,556,800 million unique visitors per month.

7. Carrefour

Founded in 1959, Carrefour has managed to expand beyond Europe and now has 14,000 stores in 40 countries (5,619 stores in France, 1,489 stores in the rest of Europe, 1,474 stores in Latin America, and 955 in Asia). In the digital field, Carrefour is positioned as one of the preferred brands for everyday shopping, and in the fourth quarter of 2024, it accumulated an average of 19,441,400 million unique visitors in its French online store.

It rose one position compared to 2023.

8. Booking

Booking.com is a travel metasearch engine originating from the Netherlands, allowing for reservations of accommodation, flights, car rentals, and tourist activities. Over the years, it has greatly expanded and now has a presence in 220 countries.

In the last quarter of 2024, the site had an average of 19,250,000 million unique visitors per month in France, a figure quite similar to the previous edition. However, the online site fell significantly in the ranking, dropping from third to eighth place.

9. Cdiscount

Cdiscount is a French platform that was founded in 1998 and specializes in general sales with a broad range of products across various categories, such as electronics, appliances, and food.

In the final third of 2024, the site had a monthly average of 19,207,100 unique visitors per month. Despite increasing the number by over a million visitors compared to the previous edition, this eCommerce platform lost 3 positions in the table.

10. Lidl

This well-known German-origin supermarket chain has specialized in discounts and low prices for food and non-food products. Currently, it has around 14,000 locations in about thirty countries, and it is very successful in the French market.

Throughout the last quarter of 2024, Lidl online had an average of 18,317,200 unique visitors per month. This eCommerce platform debuted in 2023 in seventh place and this year fell 3 positions.
