For several years now, Canva has been one of the benchmark tools for any digital professional working within the field of content creation. In our case, we use it for (almost) everything: from editing the images that enhance our articles to creating advertising banners or posters for our events. It is a paid tool, yet its simplicity and universality make it one of the most practical solutions available on the market.

And now, Canva intends to take this “universality” to a whole new level.

Quite simply, it wishes to compete head-on with the giants of graphic design.

And for free.

What is Affinity by Canva?

Affinity is a professional design tool that combines three key areas of visual creation within a single environment: photo editing, vector design, and editorial layout. Until now, these components have been distributed across three different apps (Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher), but the latest version, presented alongside the most recent suite of Canva updates, unifies all these functions into a single tool.

Its objective is clear: to enable designers, illustrators, photographers, and creators to develop complex projects without switching between programs, without sacrificing control, precision, or performance—whether illustrating, retouching, developing visual identities, or laying out books.

In 2024, Affinity was acquired by Canva, and of course, the new owner has decided that the time has come to fully realize its potential.

As the company explains in its official press release, “When Affinity joined the Canva family last year, we pledged to preserve its power while expanding its possibilities. Today, that vision becomes a reality with the new Affinity: a professional-grade creative application that brings together vector, photo, and design tools in a high-performance platform. Comprehensive. Ultra-fast. And completely free.”

Affinity is already available for Mac and Windows, and will soon be available for iPad as well. To download it, you simply need to create a free account on Canva.

Who is Affinity intended for?

In recent years Affinity has become a tool favored by professionals: graphic designers looking for versatility and precision, illustrators who value advanced vector control, creative studios interested in seamless workflows, and photographers working with advanced editing.

However, the new version greatly expands its target audience thanks to two key factors:

 • It is free for everyone, removing the financial barrier that many creatives encounter when seeking access to professional tools.
 • It integrates with Canva, opening the door for teams, marketers, and content creators who have so far mainly operated within more simplified environments.

Main new features of Affinity

This move by Canva marks a turning point for Affinity. The most relevant innovations include:

1. A unified app

Affinity now brings together vector, photo, and editorial design tools in a single application. This enables users to avoid constantly switching software, maintain creative flow, and, of course, work more efficiently. As the company explains, the aim is to facilitate work quality and guarantee tool stability; for this reason, every change processes in real time, even “when working with thousands of layers or zoom levels up to 10,000,000%.”

2. Complete workspace customization

Every designer works differently, and Affinity recognizes this. That is why it has introduced various features:

 • Blend vector, photo, and layout tools simultaneously
 • Rearrange panels
 • Remove unnecessary tools
 • Save different configurations
 • Share “studios” with other users

This enables users to adapt the interface to each type of project or professional requirement, from illustrators to layout designers.

3. Integration with Canva + AI Studio

Canva Premium users also gain access to artificial intelligence tools within Affinity, thanks to Canva AI Studio. Among these are some of Canva’s most popular features, such as:

 • Generative Fill
 • Expand & Edit
 • Remove Background

Their inclusion promises to accelerate repetitive tasks without sacrificing control over details.

4. Enhanced performance

The company explains that Affinity leverages a high-performance engine, designed to guarantee smooth operation even with large files, as well as instant panning and zoom effects and GPU acceleration. This may prove especially valuable in complex illustration projects, advanced photo retouching, or dense editorial design.

5. Compatibility with multiple formats

Affinity can now open and edit files from widely used formats such as PSD, AI, PDF, SVG, or TIFF.

6. Free forever

And of course, there is also what is probably the most striking innovation: Affinity is now completely free. There are no cut-down versions, no subscriptions, and no fine print.

Who does Affinity compete with?

Now then, having reviewed this, let us evaluate it from a business perspective—Affinity’s own business strategy.

It seems clear that Affinity’s free status is a strategic shift following its integration into Canva. Rather than being software required to generate revenue independently, it now serves as a gateway to attract professional designers into the Canva ecosystem. Its free availability removes a historic barrier to advanced tools (cost) and positions Canva as a genuine alternative to Adobe, while tremendously expanding its user base. The strategy resembles that of other technology platforms: offering a powerful product free of charge to drive adoption and foster integration with complementary services.

From this standpoint, profitability does not stem directly from Affinity, but rather from the added value it generates around it: Canva Premium subscriptions, use of AI tools, collaboration services, a resource marketplace, or solutions for teams and enterprises. In other words, Affinity serves as a catalyst that increases Canva’s presence in the professional market, strengthens its brand, and creates monetization opportunities at other points within the ecosystem.

Clearly, this presents a considerable challenge. Keep in mind that Affinity now competes against giants such as Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, which until now have dominated photo editing, vector design, and editorial layout. It also faces competition from CorelDRAW, another long-standing graphics suite, as well as specialized solutions such as Figma for UI/UX design. Within the free software arena, its only significant rival is GIMP, although GIMP covers only photo editing and does not offer advanced vector or layout capabilities.

The result is a hybrid tool that combines the power of a professional studio with the accessibility of an open platform. An ambitious undertaking that promises to democratize advanced design.

We shall see what the outcome of this endeavor will be.

Members of Generation Z are raising the standards of demand regarding consent and privacy on a global scale.[…]

The post How to Win Over Generation Z: A Guide for Marketing Professionals appeared first on Marketing4eCommerce English.

]]>

Generation Z is rewriting the rules of digital trust, and this compels brands to change their approach. With projected spending of 12 billion dollars by 2030, no brand can afford to ignore this generation. A recent study, “Winning Gen Z: A Marketer’s Guide to Digital Trust”, conducted by Usercentrics, surveyed 10,000 consumers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands to uncover the key changes in the approach to privacy that marketers must consider to foster business growth and establish lasting trust with their youngest customers.

The Privacy Gap

Fifty-six percent of Generation Z is unaware of, or believes they do not have, data privacy rights; however, 14% are aware and exercise those rights more frequently than any other generation. In fact, the study reveals that this age group is raising the privacy standard for everyone. What does this mean for marketing? It means that brands must make privacy an accessible and appealing part of their identity.

In this context, brands should focus on being “trust builders,” using human language instead of legal jargon and interactive formats (such as short videos or micro-tutorials). In essence, it is about clearly explaining why data is being collected and what value the user receives by agreeing to it.

Convenience Above All… But On Their Terms

Forty-one percent of Generation Z states that online convenience outweighs privacy concerns, compared to 29% of boomers. For them, sharing data is a transactional agreement: they will do it if it improves their experience, but they demand transparency and security. Therefore, the study recommends that brands highlight visible signals (such as padlock icons or messages like “We will never sell your data”) and provide brief explanations regarding why data is being requested.

The Rise of Selective Consent

Forty-six percent of Generation Z report clicking “accept all” less often than three years ago. Indeed, every pop-up encountered while browsing has become a test of trust: a confusing or insistent request is perceived as a negative signal. The guiding principle is that online businesses should use short, clear banners… with easy-to-use preference controls.

Loyalty to Social Media

Generation Z trusts sources different from those of previous generations: 38% trust the data they provide to social media, compared to 37% who trust governmental institutions (the lowest figure among all generations). In contrast, 71% of boomers trust the government and only 4% trust social media. A key takeaway for brands is the importance of maintaining a fluid culture, investing in creators, and making their values visible in every interaction.

Redefining “Sensitive Data”: Shifting from Security to Identity

The definition of what is considered private is changing: previous generations focus on protecting data such as phone numbers, medical records, and login credentials. However, Generation Z’s concerns go beyond passwords or medical records: they fear being profiled or stereotyped based on location, age, gender, AI history, or shopping cart contents.

In this scenario, brands need to explain which data are collected, for what purpose, and, most importantly, what benefits users will receive. Providing users with simple controls so that personalization becomes an empowering experience is an effective step in that direction.

Open to Innovation, But On Their Terms

Twenty-one percent of Generation Z feel comfortable with their data being used to train AI—almost twice the percentage of boomers (11%)—but only if they perceive value and transparency. In other words, Generation Z will drive innovation only if they trust the process. Clearly communicating the purpose and limitations of data usage is essential.

Full Study✏️

As you can see, Generation Z’s usage habits and mindset can serve as a “stress test” for the future of digital trust. As Adelina Peltea, CMO of Usercentrics, notes, “the next decade of growth will be driven by increased trust. Generation Z sets the pace, and the rest of the market will follow.”

If you are involved in the world of social media planning and management, there are a variety of tools that can help you streamline and simplify your work routine without sacrificing optimal and professional results. One such tool is Canva, a platform that will assist you in enhancing the visual aspect of your social media activity. You might have heard of it, but do you know how it works and how to make the most out of it? We will explain it to you 😉.

 • What is Canva
 • What is Canva used for
 • How Canva works
 • How to design with Canva using AI

What is Canva

Canva is a graphic design software created back in 2012 and launched a year later by Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht, and Cameron Adams in Australia. Its aim is to democratize design so that anyone can easily create aesthetic works and share them if desired. Canva has a substantial number of employees: over 5,000 worldwide, distributed across its offices in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, the Philippines, Austria, and the Czech Republic.

A mission with which they have already reached more than 220 million monthly active users from 190 countries, who have created over 25 billion designs with Canva. A significant part of the tool’s success is due to the fact that it is based on the classic drag and drop format, which endows it with simple and intuitive functionality.

Furthermore, we are not limited to designing creatives for social media, but we can create all types of works. From posters to brochures or various stationery designs, among many other possibilities, all for free… or almost.

How much does Canva cost

The tool offers four different plans depending on your needs: Free Canva, Canva Pro ($121 per year), Canva Teams ($99 per year per person with a minimum subscription of 3 people), and Canva Enterprise (the price is negotiated directly with the platform).

However, the truth is that the free plan is quite comprehensive. It includes 5GB of storage, offers a wide range of graphic elements, templates, designs, stock photographs, etc., and will help you achieve great results. Additionally, this version allows you to invite others to design and collaborate on your projects, as well as the ability to send designs to print and have them delivered to your doorstep.

As for the paid plans, Canva Pro is intended for a single user, while Canva for Teams is designed to be used by three or more users. Both expand the free offering with more templates, new resources, greater storage capacity, and other additional advantages.

Resources and elements marked with a small golden crown are exclusive to paid plans and cannot be used in the free version.

But we insist that the free version is not left behind and with it, you can create true wonders. It is also worth noting that Canva for Teams offers a free plan for NGOs, which includes up to 50 members (if you add more users, they will receive a 50% discount). Therefore, if you work in one, you just need to contact the tool and request it.

What is Canva used for

Let us be clear: Photoshop and Illustrator are powerful tools, spectacularly powerful. Incredible software that has brought the possibilities of photo editing and basic design to millions of people around the world. Two great products that, however, have two major drawbacks: they require a certain degree of knowledge to harness their full potential and, above all, they are very expensive.

Perhaps for this reason, a tool like this can achieve so much success. One of its greatest virtues is its ability to adapt to the needs of those of us who work on social media in a simple and quick manner. It offers the ability to create a wide variety of designs and formats, perfect for designing the creatives you need to post on your social media platforms.

From its menu, you can quickly choose what type of design you need: a Facebook cover, a Twitter profile picture, banners… Even infographics are within this tool’s area of application. Moreover, you do not have to worry about the dimensions of your creations since, depending on the format you choose, it will provide the appropriate measurements.

However, the advantage Canva offered in terms of price in comparison to Adobe has been partially diluted. Indeed, by the end of August 2024, the company announced a significant price increase for its Team plans that caused Canva Teams to cost four times more. Later, in October 2024, the company tried to ease concerns by announcing that this increase would not apply to existing users. However, if you are new, we regret to inform you that you will indeed have to pay the increased price.

How Canva works

It is not necessary to have design knowledge to be able to use Canva; it is an intuitive and very simple tool. The first thing you must do is log in or, if you do not have one yet, create an account.

To create an account on Canva, you can do so with Google, Facebook, or your email, among other options. After registering, the tool will ask you what you intend to use it for (teacher, student, personal, small business, etc.). This will help filter the options it provides you with by default.

Once you access your profile, you can start creating. It is very easy as it offers different options in its main menu. Additionally, it allows you to directly search for the type of work you want to create.

If you want to continue with an existing project, you can access them by expanding the left side menu and clicking on “Projects.”

Once you have chosen the format that best suits your needs, you will only have to select one of the pre-designed templates and tweak it, or start with a blank design and employ your creativity, experimenting with the hundreds of designs, fonts, and decorative elements that enrich Canva’s catalog.

Within the editor, there is a main menu located on the left, where you can access various functions. The main ones are:

 • Design: you can explore templates and filter them by themes.
 • Elements: by expanding this option, you will find photos, frames, graphics elements, stickers, shapes, and other resources for creating and decorating your design.
 • Text: this section allows you to create text boxes by choosing between titles, subtitles, and smaller text.
 • Brand Kit: a kit where you can gather all brand assets, such as logos, colors, fonts, icons, images, graphics, and specific brand guidelines.
 • Uploaded: here you can upload images, videos, and audio to use in your works. It even gives you the option to record yourself and upload it directly.
 • Tools: includes basic tools like the cursor, drawing function, shapes, lines, sticky notes, text, and tables.
 • Projects: provides access to your other designs, folders, and images.
 • Apps: this section compiles a series of applications accessible through the tool that can enhance your creations. Some examples are: Brandfetch, which allows adding company logos to your designs; Character Builder, which enables including custom illustrated characters; or Vectorizer, which converts images into high-quality SVG files.
 • Batch Creation: allows quickly and easily creating hundreds of pages and designs from data sources like CSV or Excel files, or by entering the data and instructions manually.
 • Charts: customize and include charts in your designs.
 • Magic Media: an AI-powered tool that allows generating images, graphic elements, and videos from written prompts.

Additionally, there is another menu that, although more hidden, is also very important. It is the “Assistant”, that divine button with sparkles located at the bottom left corner.

By displaying it, you will find attractive design elements, image recommendations, tools, functions, and designs. You can also perform searches to access the resources you need more quickly.

And the third menu we must be aware of is the top center bar. When selecting various elements of your design, new options will appear, depending on what type of element it is. This allows modifying different parameters (color, size, orientation, position, etc.).

Once you finish, you will be able to download your masterpiece in different formats (PNG, JPG, PDF, GIF, MP4, etc.) by clicking on the “share” button located at the top right bar. The tool automatically saves your designs, so you do not have to worry about your progress being recorded or not. A cloud icon with a check inside, located on the top bar of the editor, indicates this is happening without issues.

Nonetheless, if you wish to do it manually, you simply need to click on “File” and then on the “Save” option.

Create a social media image in Canva

To start creating a social media image, we just need to select the “Socials” option from the central menu and scroll to see the available options, or input into the search bar what type of post or for which social media you wish to create an image.

If we access the templates, above them, a central menu with filters according to the theme or business you wish to target your post towards will appear.

As with graphic resources and elements, there are templates that belong to the Pro plan. These are identified with the golden crown in the lower right corner.

Once we have found the right template for us, click on it and then on the “Customize this template” button. And you can start designing your post!

Create a logo in Canva

If you have ever wondered how to create your brand’s graphic corporate identity with Canva, the first step is to go to templates and enter the word “logo” in the search bar. After doing this, the platform will show you a multitude of CI templates (some paid and others for free).

As always, you can select the filters you want in the central menu if you want to view only templates in a specific theme or scroll through all the template options.

Then you just have to unleash your imagination and modify the chosen template. You can play with fonts, shapes, colors, and add or remove any elements you wish until you have a CI that reflects your brand’s values.

Create an infographic in Canva

With this tool, you can design all kinds of infographics, from timelines to ideas for presentations, educational or advertising infographics, among many other options; the only limit is the one you set. To do this, type “infographic” in the search bar.

After this, access the infographic templates, filter, and select one to get a starting point or open a blank canvas to unleash your imagination. And start creating.

Create a website with Canva

Among the many creative possibilities offered by this platform is the ability to design a website for free. To do this, you have two options: either select the “website” option or enter the words into the search bar, both in the central menu of the home page. The first will open a blank canvas in Canva’s editor, while the second will direct you to a template section before you start designing.

Creating a website with Canva is straightforward. You will have access to over 3,000 templates created by professionals and enjoy the platform’s wide array of editing tools. Furthermore, while you can pay for a personalized domain, you have the option to use a free domain with the structure “.my.canva.site.”

Canva templates

If what you wish is to navigate among the more than 2.2 million templates offered for free to inspire yourself and discover all the possibilities of format and compositions available to you, you can access them through the left menu on the home screen by clicking on “Templates”.

Within this section, you will find a wealth of suggestions, popular searches, trends, options inspired by your last design, new arrivals, etc.

How to design with Canva using AI

Like many other platforms, it did not take long to integrate artificial intelligence into its system to offer a more complete experience to its users. Thanks to this, it presented its Magic Studio AI tool suite. Among the functions encompassed in this suite, are one based on generating visual content and another on text creation.

Magic Media

Within Canva’s own editor, you can use an AI generator of images, graphic elements, and videos to create unique works to include in your compositions. This function can be found within the left side menu of the editor.

The options for generating graphic and video elements are in beta phase. Moreover, it is worth highlighting that the video generation model can create videos lasting up to 4 seconds and it is based on Runway technology. Free Canva users are limited to 50 uses to generate images and elements and 5 uses for videos.

Using Magic Media is quite simple, you just need to select the section of what you want to create with the function and type the description of the image, element, or video you are going to generate. Moreover, the tool itself provides some inspiration ideas. And if you scroll down, you can select the style of your work and its aspect ratio (square, horizontal, or vertical).

Once all the parameters are set, all you need to do is click “generate” and the tool will create four options. Unlike other tools, you do not have to choose just one of the four for your design; you can insert one, two, three, or all four, you just need to click on them.

In case you are not satisfied, you can select the “generate again” option to create new images based on that same prompt, or “back” to provide new instructions.

Magic Write

To create this tool, the open-source algorithm GPT-3 was utilized. It is important to mention that in this case, the free plan includes a fairly limited number of uses.

Magic Write is available in Canva documents and in the design editor. To use it in the document editor, you must open a document from the central menu or search “document” in the search bar. Once inside, this feature will appear in the top center menu. You can also press the plus (+) symbol that appears next to the header and select the “Magic Write” option.

After this, a text box will appear where you have to enter a description, in five or more words, of the topic you want this AI to generate a text about. Once you have written the instructions, press the “Enter” key and prepare for the magic.

magic write canva

When the text is generated, you can edit it as you please and make all the modifications you desire in the document, both in terms of style (color, typography, structuring…) and content, adding more text or removing parts of the existing one. And of course, you can make use of this tool as many times as you wish.

To use it in the design editor, you need to go to the “Text” function or the Assistant and select the “magic writing” option. After this, the rest of the process is the same as in the previous case.

Other AI-based functions

Background Remover: select an image and easily remove its background. Thanks to the AI, this tool is capable of appropriately respecting the limits of the elements it separates from the removed background. This function is only included in paid plans.

Generate backgrounds: select an image and describe the new background you wish to apply. The AI will be responsible for generating an entirely new environment for the featured elements. For example, make a frog go from being on a lily pond to being at a birthday party.

Magic Eraser: with this tool, you can remove any unwanted elements or details from an image by brushing over the area you wish to clean. At the moment, it is not available in the free version. This function is also unavailable for free accounts.

Magic Capture: allows you to select and separate any object or subject present in an image. This way, you can edit it individually, change its position, insert it into another image, or modify its size. To use this tool, you need a paid plan.

Text Capture: replicates the same capacity as the previous tool but only applying it to texts integrated into images. This function is only included in paid plans.

Magic Editor: you can add or replace any element in an image. Simply identify, by painting with the cursor, the area where you want to add something and describe it so it appears.

Magic Expansion: this function allows you to expand the limits of images or transform a vertical shot into a horizontal one, thus recreating what is outside the original frame. To use it, a paid plan is required.

Translator: automatically translates the text of your designs to more than 100 different languages, making it easy for you to broaden your designs’ reach. It can be accessed from the “Assistant,” and the free plan gives you a limit of 50 uses.

Like this but…: within the writing assistant Magic Writing includes this option. By selecting it, the tool has the capability to adapt the text to a specific tone, facilitating the task of writing content consistent with the essence and tone of your brand in any design or document.

]]>

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the (negative) impact that AI Overviews and AI Mode are having on the organic traffic of millions of websites worldwide, Google has taken an important step to support (or at least to reassure) content publishers by launching Offerwall.

What is Google Offerwall?

Google Offerwall is a new tool within Google Ad Manager that aims to offer media outlets more opportunities to generate revenue while simultaneously giving readers greater control over how they consume content.

After a testing period involving more than 1,000 publishers, Offerwall is now available to all users of Google Ad Manager. The company presents this tool not only as a new source of income for websites and blogs, but also as a means to transform how subscriptions are managed: a more flexible and user-centered model that could be especially beneficial for smaller media outlets.

A “wall of offers”

As its name suggests, Offerwall is essentially a “wall of offers” that is presented to visitors who land on a website. Rather than completely blocking access, it provides users with a variety of options for interacting with the site and, in return, gaining access to the content.

When a reader arrives on a page that has implemented an Offerwall, a customizable message is displayed that asks them to choose a way to support the site in order to proceed. The available options are diverse and seek to adapt to user preferences. Among the available choices, the following stand out:

 • Rewarded ad: The default option, which allows users to watch a short ad (usually a video) to unlock access to the content.
 • Interest capture: Users may select interest categories to help publishers better understand their audience.
 • Micropayments: The tool integrates with third-party platforms, such as Supertab.co, enabling users to pay a small fee for temporary access to content.
 • Custom choice: This is one of the most flexible features, allowing publishers to add their own options. For example, Google explains that access could be granted in exchange for users subscribing to a newsletter or signing in.

Once the user selects and completes one of the options, access to the content is granted.

On their end, publishers have the ability to control when and where the Offerwall is displayed, using URL inclusions and exclusions (for instance, applying this “wall of offers” only to specific content on their website, or excluding it from other URLs), as well as setting thresholds to prevent the message from appearing too frequently to the same visitor. Additionally, the “offers” themselves are customizable: for example, Google explains that a publisher may set up a system where, in exchange for viewing a rewarded ad, the user receives 12 hours of access to the site, or three pageviews.

Google has indicated that initial tests have been very promising. Publishers who have implemented Offerwall have seen an average increase of 9% in their revenues, which demonstrates its potential to generate new sources of monetization beyond traditional advertising.

Tailored flexibility and customization

According to Google, Offerwall has been designed with flexibility and the ability to customize in mind. Publishers can configure the message with their own logo, text, and options. Furthermore, the tool is available in a wide range of languages, allowing publishers to reach audiences across the globe effectively.

Google has provided an extensive list of available languages, from Spanish and English to Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and many more. To ensure that messages are clear and accurate, Google recommends that publishers only use languages in which they are able to write proficiently.

For publishers interested in testing the tool, Google has made the testing process straightforward by adding query parameters to the site’s URL. This enables them to preview the Offerwall before fully deploying it, allowing adjustment of colors, fonts, and texts to suit their brand’s aesthetic. It is important to note that in order for the Offerwall to function, the website must be tagged with the Google Publisher Tag (GPT), a JavaScript snippet provided by Google Ad Manager that publishers insert into their website to display ads and control how and when they are loaded.

Why is the launch of Google Offerwall relevant?

As mentioned, this innovation, which constitutes a customizable and far more diverse solution than the classic paywall, arrives at a time when media and blog publishers worldwide are increasingly concerned about the decline in organic traffic resulting from Google’s automated responses, particularly the AI Overviews.

Additionally, it represents a means of diversifying revenue at a time when advertising income is increasingly uncertain, thereby reducing dependence on traditional advertising. Furthermore, in a world where users are increasingly mindful of their privacy and data, Offerwall gives them control over how they interact with content. Rather than simply being passive recipients of ads, they become active participants in the monetization ecosystem.

Although the tool is available for publishers of all sizes, Google Offerwall appears to be especially useful for small businesses and content creators who lack the resources to develop their own monetization infrastructure. Offerwall provides them with a ready-to-use solution that integrates easily into their workflow.

To be or not to be: Max regrets and decides to change his name to HBO Max (once again) https://marketing4ecommerce.net/en/max-becomes-hbomax-again/ https://marketing4ecommerce.net/en/max-becomes-hbomax-again/#respond Thu, 15 May 2025 11:22:47 +0000 https://marketing4ecommerce.net/en/?p=140833

The decision made by the streaming platform has generated a disparity of opinions on social media. We are informing you about it.[…]

The post To be or not to be: Max regrets and decides to change his name to HBO Max (once again) appeared first on Marketing4eCommerce English.

]]>

At some point in our lives, we have all gone through an identity crisis; it is quite common among us humans, but it also occurs with brands or companies. And that is exactly what has happened to Max which, following a rebranding effort launched in 2023, has regretted the abrupt change and has decided to revert to being called HBO Max.

Max leaves its name behind and returns to HBO Max

Everything started in May 2023 when Warner Bros. Discovery made the controversial decision to remove the HBO brand from its corporate identity, betting solely on the term Max and also discarding the purple color palette. This rebranding process initially began in the United States and gradually expanded to other countries, reaching Spain in May 2024.

Now, it seems that its executives have regretted their decision. In large part, the recovery of its former naming comes from the renown and prestige that HBO has in the entertainment industry, with series such as The Last of Us and The White Lotus being contemporary flagships of the television network, in addition to other classics like The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, and many more.

Given the path we find ourselves on and the momentum we are enjoying, we believe that HBO Max more accurately represents our current proposition to consumers. This clearly reflects our implicit promise to offer content recognized for being unique and, to borrow a phrase we always said at HBO, that it is worth paying for them,” declared Casey Bloys, President and CEO of HBO and Max Content.

User (and brand) reactions on social media

Let us remember that this is not the first time Warner or HBO has surprised us by changing the name of its platform. In 2008, when the streaming service made its debut, it was introduced under the name HBO Go, evolving in 2015 to HBO Now; in 2020 to HBO Max and in 2023 to simply Max.

As expected, the return to the 2020 name has generated opinions (and many memes) among internet users, especially on Twitter where the hashtag #HBOMax has become a trend. Even HBO itself has joined the conversation with humor, clearly indicating that they are aware of what their change would generate and embracing it.

Of course, the euphoria and controversy has spurred an interesting dialogue among users. Many people have pointed out that the decision was obvious and that it is quite a strategic and marketing-savvy move, given HBO’s undeniable positioning in the streaming world. However, others believe that this reversal is a disastrous decision that reveals weakness on their part.

On the other hand, brands have not missed the opportunity to join this viral conversation and capture some engagement. To do so, they have turned to humor:

Undoubtedly, this has been quite a risky move by Warner Bros. Discovery executives, but considering the relevance of the HBO brand and that a significant portion of the audience continued to include it when naming the streaming service, it makes us think that it was the right decision (you could learn from this, Elon Musk…). Moreover, we should not forget that behind these types of decisions, there are many prior analyses and surveys.

However, we hope Warner does not decide to change its corporate identity again anytime soon, saving us all the wear and tear from those of us who keep an eye on digital trends and who are responsible for communicating them. This includes, of course, the Community Manager of Max on Twitter.

The post Google redesigns Android with Material 3 Expressive: its new dynamic and personalized design language appeared first on Marketing4eCommerce English.

]]>

Google has introduced Material 3 Expressive, its new design language for Android devices. This update builds on the Material You design presented by the company nearly four years ago, adding new customization options, more fluid and natural animations, and interactions, to provide a tailored and dynamic experience.

The first to receive these updates will be Pixel devices, but this will not occur until the end of the year. Google has assured that it is working with its partners to integrate more design improvements into its Android 16 devices and Wear OS 6.

What’s new in Material 3 expressive for phones and tablets

The new design language of Material 3 Expressive reinvents the appearance and usability of Android mobiles and tablets thanks to a series of innovations that make them more human, personalized, and accessible. Among the main updates, the following stand out:

 • More natural and dynamic animation system: the movement of elements on your screen becomes more fluid and coordinated. For instance, if you dismiss a notification by swiping it away, the other notifications will respond with a slight drag movement.
 • New dynamic color themes: Google has included new color combinations in its selection of color themes.
 • Flexible typography: Material 3 Expressive offers 30 typographic styles and the possibility to modify their dimensions, achieving a personal and adapted aesthetic.
 • Expanded shape library: 35 new shape designs and shape transformations have been added that you can apply to the design of certain elements or functions of your device.
 • Customization of “Quick Settings”: you will be able to include more actions in your Quick Settings menu to more easily access the most relevant capabilities of your device.
 • “Live Updates” feature: designed so you can quickly and effectively track progress notifications from certain delivery, travel, or navigation applications. For example, if you place an order on Uber Eats, you will receive a live update on the status of your delivery.

Google has stated that it is “working to incorporate these visual options into Google applications such as Google Photos, Fitbit, and Gmail“.

Redesigning the experience on Smartwatches

Material 3 Expressive adapts the design of visual elements of smartwatches to the curvature of the round screen, giving prominence to it and creating more fluid and natural sensations of movement and activity. “As you scroll, the lists animate to offer you a sense of depth that facilitates access to information“, explains Google.

Reactive movement has also been applied to the numeric keypad and multimedia control of the devices. Additionally, the overall design offers smooth transitions where the elements adapt to the screen space, providing an appropriate visual composition. This is complemented by the new visible button system, which allows them to expand to cover the entire screen.

Another new feature is the option to select a dynamic color theme that will apply to your smartwatch’s entire system.

Normally, the change of logo for a gigantic company like Google, whose products and services accompany us at all times and everywhere, should be something incredible-amazing-super striking.

However, the feeling it has provoked in our team has been somewhat… meh.

new and old google logo
On the right, the new G of Google.

I am aware that it is not a complete rebranding, nothing radical that can evoke passions and hatreds, like those undertaken in the past by Jaguar, Pepsi, eBay or Nokia. But considering you are changing the world’s most famous G… it might have been interesting to show a bit more ambition.

As you can see, the G remains essentially the same, and the changes are concentrated on its color palette, which is now distributed in a gradient form, instead of the segments it displayed in recent years. This gradient seems to be the brand’s new design approach, and it aligns with other creatives that it has been using for months, as is the case with the Gemini logo.

The previous time Google changed its logo was in 2015, with the emergence of a new typeface, Product Sans, which gave a good facelift to a logo that had clearly become outdated. It was then that the iconic G, which had endured until now, was born.

Previous Google logo change, in 2015

The change, surprisingly, first appeared on the store of its archrival Apple, and it is anticipated that it will gradually make its appearance in the rest of the Mountain View company’s products in the coming days.

Canva has taken advantage of the celebration of the fourth edition of its Canva Create 2025 event to present its new Visual Suite 2.0, an enhanced offering of AI-powered design tools. The new releases have been designed to blend creativity and productivity, providing a better and more personalized experience for its users.

Melanie Perkins, co-founder and CEO of Canva, expressed her enthusiasm about all the announced innovations: “We finally reveal the Visual Suite 2.0, where creativity meets productivity, our largest product launch since we founded Canva more than a decade ago.

Each year, our community of 230 million people shares millions of ideas. One of the most repeated is the need to merge creativity and productivity in a single perfectly integrated flow. We love making life easier for anyone who wants to bring their ideas to life, whether by revolutionizing essential work tools or providing new ways to design with a specific assistant.”

Visual Suite 2.0

Canva introduced its first Visual Suite in 2022 and since then more than 145 million people have joined the platform. Currently, more than 230 million active monthly users use Canva to explore and express their creativity, creating over 376 designs per second.

The Visual Suite has become a key ally for individuals, professionals, and businesses alike, being used in over 190 countries and by more than 95% of Fortune 500 companies, including companies like T-Mobile and FedEx. Thanks to its successful reception and implementation, Canva has achieved annual revenues exceeding $3.300 billion, a year-over-year growth of 30%.

Now, with the arrival of Visual Suite 2.0, Canva opens a new chapter in its commitment to AI-driven design. They have presented everything from spreadsheets to advanced data visualization tools, including conversational design, large-scale content personalization, and new ways to create interactive experiences. Let us discover them.

The Entire Visual Suite in One Design

The need to handle different workspaces for each type of content will be a thing of the past. Soon, Canva will allow users to create any type of design on a single page with a unified format, be it documents, websites, or presentations.

This feature will allow you to create all materials related to the same topic in a cohesive space, facilitating the creative process and design consistency. For example, if you are working on the launch strategy for a new vlog, you can create social media posts, posters, campaign reports, scheduling spreadsheets, and even a website, all in a single collaborative and unified workspace.

Spreadsheets

Canva revealed that its research team found that nearly 70% of professionals who work with data every week experience anxiety because spreadsheets are complex, rigid, and difficult to customize.

To address this, the platform has reinvented spreadsheets to offer a completely visual experience while connecting and integrating data, text, and visual resources. These are part of Canva’s Magic Studio and incorporate several key functionalities.

One of them is Magic Analysis, which allows you to analyze datasets and identify key patterns to offer important conclusions. Another is Data Connection, which imports data from tools like HubSpot, Statista, or Google Analytics, among others, making it easier to bring information to life.

Large-Scale Magic Studio

With the new capability of Large-Scale Magic Studio, you can transform your spreadsheets into large volumes of content in just seconds.

Whether it is about marketing campaigns for various markets, internal communications, or sales strategies, templates can be instantly filled thanks to the dynamic insertion of data, eliminating manual work, speeding up production, and ensuring consistency across all media,” explain Canva representatives.

Magic Charts

A tool capable of combining data and design to create visual and interactive representations that facilitate the understanding of information. With Magic Charts, you can convert raw data from your spreadsheets into dynamic elements that stay true to your brand’s identity. From animated charts to scrollable reports or engaging infographics, present your information clearly with one click.

Canva AI

This innovation is a voice-powered design tool driven by AI that functions as a conversational creative assistant capable of speaking. You will only need to voice your command to generate texts, presentations, edit images, etc., and Canva AI will bring your directives to life.

Canva AI integrates all of the platform’s generative AI tools, offering an integrated workflow to help you transform your ideas into tangible designs and creations. For now, it is available only in English.

Canva Programming

The design platform aims to remove the barriers that prevented the integration of interactive content without using complex technical tools. To this end, it has created Canva Programming, a solution through which, with a simple request, you can integrate forms, calculators, flashcards, etc. into your designs.

Canva Programming transforms any static content into a dynamic and engaging experience without leaving Canva and without the need to program or resort to external tools. Whether you want to create web pages, educational resources, or presentations, remember, you only need to write a few words.”

Photo Editor

Canva has incorporated its photo editor into its Visual Suite, enhancing its capabilities with AI and improving the user experience. Whether you are working with professional designs or just want to make a small touch-up, the ease of use and the power of the improved photo editor make it very simple.

Some of the most innovative features include: AI editing for precise element modification, the AI background generator capable of considering lighting and composition, and the ability to remove or replace objects easily.

Responsible and Safe Design

Thanks to this new enhanced offering, Canva consolidates its position in the visual communication sector, both by facilitating everyday content creation and the complex working processes of teams worldwide.

Additionally, all of Canva’s AI tools, including Magic Studio and Canva AI, are backed by Canva Shield, its set of privacy, security, and trust tools. This ensures: input and output data moderation, safety filters, bias mitigation, and clear user controls over how data is used in AI training.

Moreover, the platform is clear that AI should be a tool to enhance human creativity, not replace it. Therefore, it is committed to developing it transparently and responsibly.

Through its $220 million Creator’s Fund, Canva has paid millions in AI rights to ensure their creators receive fair rewards when their resources are used in AI-generated designs. Creators receive payments when their content is used in generating AI results that are published and continue to have rights to monthly royalties if they agree to have their content used to train Canva’s AI.

It is well established that Google has a stronghold over much of the internet, especially in the areas of web browsing and search engines. So much so, that when we talk about doing something online, we often say we’re going to Google it. However, many browsers and search engines are overshadowed by the tech giant from Silicon Valley. Therefore, today we want to show that there are alternatives to Google, and that it’s not the only browser or search engine Spaniards use.

Before we dive in, let’s clarify the difference between a browser and a search engine, because they are not the same. A browser is software that allows users to access the internet, while a search engine is a tool designed to search for and track information online, leading users to web pages. Let’s get started!

 • The most used browsers in Spain
 • The most used search engines in Spain

The most used browsers in Spain

StatCounter regularly provides charts showing the market shares of companies in various digital sectors. Next, we will look at the most used browsers in Spain from October 2023 to September 2024. This data includes usage across all devices.

1.Google Chrome

As mentioned, Google holds a dominant position in the digital ecosystem, with Chrome accounting for 73.35% of the Spanish market (up from 71.95% in 2023), outstripping its nearest competitor by over 58 percentage points. Released in 2008, its popularity is partly due to its pre-installation on Android devices.

In addition to its widespread use, Chrome offers features such as easy synchronization with Google accounts, making it appealing to users.

2.Safari

Apple’s flagship browser, Safari, is Chrome’s closest competitor, yet holds only 14.9% of the market. Despite the significant gap with Chrome, Safari remains the second most used browser, largely due to its exclusivity on Apple products. Its market share has slightly reduced from 15.95% in 2023.

Safari, designed specifically for Apple products, serves as the default browser for iPhones, similar to Chrome’s role on Android devices. It excels at device synchronization through Apple account integration.

3.Edge

Microsoft Edge is the successor to the now-defunct Microsoft Edge Legacy and Internet Explorer. Like Chrome and Safari, Edge offers synchronization with personal accounts, specifically Outlook, which facilitates the use of tools like Microsoft Teams and Office 365.

Often pre-installed on Windows laptops, Edge isn’t always the browser of choice, holding 3.83% of the Spanish market (up from 3.65% the previous year).

4.Firefox

Firefox maintains its position from 2023, but its market share in Spain decreased from 2.92% to 2.7%. Years ago, when Google Chrome emerged, the browser landscape was dominated by Internet Explorer and open-source Mozilla Firefox.

5.Samsung Internet

Integrated into Samsung mobile phones and tablets, along with Chrome, Samsung Internet is the default browser for these devices. It remains the fifth most used browser with a 2.65% market share, down from 2.88% in 2023. This reflects the significant user base of the Korean tech giant’s mobile devices.

Among its features, Samsung Internet offers customizable navigation menus, video viewing assistants, and proprietary Samsung extensions.
Samsung, the renowned South Korean mobile technology leader, offers a range of features including the ability to customize the navigation menu, an assistant for viewing videos, and exclusive Samsung addons or extensions.

6.Opera

Opera is a browser that prioritizes user experience, developed by the Norwegian company Opera Software. Over time, Opera has built a strong user base due to its features that ensure a more pleasant browsing experience. Currently, it holds a 2.1% market share, which is slightly up from 2.01% in 2023.

For instance, this browser comes with a built-in popup blocker, eliminating the need for additional extensions. It also offers integrated VPN options, music playback from the sidebar, an in-browser messenger chat, and ad blockers, among other features. A standout innovation is its AI-powered browser, developed through the integration of ChatGPT and Aria, Opera’s own AI. Additionally, Opera GX is available, tailored specifically for gamers.

The Most Used Search Engines in Spain

Google’s dominance is particularly evident in the realm of search engines, where it significantly outperforms any alternatives. According to StatCounter, here are the top 6 search engines in Spain:

1.Google

Naturally, since Chrome is the leading browser, it’s no surprise that Google tops the list of search engines with a commanding 95.3% search share in Spain, a figure nearly identical to 2023’s 95.93%, making it virtually the entire market.

Google continues to be the leading search engine, prompting intense competition to rank at the top of its search results and generating widespread attention whenever it releases new updates.

However, Google does not enjoy the same level of control in every country. In China, it is outperformed by local search engines like Baidu. Similarly, in Russia, Yandex, the country’s native search engine, holds a significant 72.32% market share, compared to Google’s 26.22%.

Furthermore, the recent integration of AI into Google’s search engine is a key strategy for reinforcing its already strong position. This conversational AI, known as Gemini, is now available in 230 countries and over 40 languages. Its connection to Google’s vast information network gives it a significant advantage in providing answers and information.

2.Bing

Developed by Microsoft, Bing is the second most popular search engine among Spanish users, holding a 3.14% market share, up from 2.61% in 2023. Bing offers a specific interface for video and image searches and features real-time news updates on its homepage. Additionally, the search engine’s homepage often showcases landscape wallpapers, providing the location and artist’s name, with an option for download.

Currently, Bing’s main attraction is its AI-powered chatbot, enhanced by ChatGPT and Dalle-3. This allows users to engage in conversations, receive more detailed search responses, and generate images directly within the chat interface.

3. Yahoo!

Like Firefox and Internet Explorer were for browsers, Yahoo was the most widely used search engine in the ’90s before Google came along. At that time, Yahoo struggled to adapt to the rapid changes Google introduced, which focused on speed and enhancing user experience.

Consequently, Yahoo has significantly lost its prominence on the internet over the years, culminating in its acquisition by Verizon, a telecommunications company, in 2016. Nonetheless, its search engine still retains a small user base in Spain, holding a 0.93% market share, which is nearly identical to its 0.92% share in 2023.

4. DuckDuckGo

This search engine is independent of the major tech companies and has secured its place among the giants due to its strong emphasis on privacy. Unlike other search engines, DuckDuckGo doesn’t track your search history, which means it doesn’t generate personalized results. It has remained stable with a 0.33% market share, slightly up from 0.3% in 2023.

5. Ecosia

This German search engine has found its niche by focusing on sustainability, with its market share increasing slightly from 0.11% in 2023 to 0.13%. Ecosia functions like any other search engine, but it distinguishes itself by donating about 80% of its advertising revenue to non-profit organizations for tree planting. This means that while you search, you’re contributing to reforestation efforts. You can even see how many trees you’ve helped plant by checking your counter.

Beyond this noteworthy initiative, Ecosia is also committed to operational transparency, publishing regular financial reports.

6. Yandex

Yandex is a Russian search engine and the most popular in Russia. However, in Spain, it ranks sixth, capturing only 0.1% of the search engine market share, the same as in 2023. Yandex also offers a variety of services, including maps, weather forecasts, image and video search, video games, and its own email service.

In addition to these services, the company has created Yandex Market, a marketplace offering products from various categories, complete with a price comparison feature.
